An Olde Legend

Now, I have heard a legend,
And I'll tell it to you,
Though it may not be word-for-word,
The moral still is true.

It says when Eve told Adam
That baby's time was due,
It filled his heart with panic:
"Hey! What's a Daddy do?"

So Adam asked an angel
This question in his head;
The angel smiled at Adam,
And this is what he said:

"A Father's job is special,
He takes care of his own,
He's always there to lend a hand
Long after kids are grown.

"He listens to each little need,
There's never one too small;
And his strong arms can comfort you,
And lift you when you fall.

"He whispers words of love to you
So no one else can hear,
And since he watches over you
There's nothing you should fear.

"And he can mend a broken heart
When on his knee you sit,
He's always there to dry your tears
And tell you not to quit.

"He's refuge, strength, security,
But most of all ~ he's love!
In fact, his ways remind me of
The Father up above!"

So now you know the legend
Told from the days of yore,
And now you know how Adam found out
What a Daddy's for!
