In My Dream
In my dream, I see myself on a narrow path, well-worn.
The sun is shining warm and bright on this early autumn morn,
And all around me, everywhere, as far as I can see,
Tiny golden flowers bob their heads upon the breeze.
Though I walk along an unknown path, I m sure just where I am bound.
Somehow I know that I m not lost, but rather that I m found.
A sense of peace envelops me; I know I m not alone,
For when this journey s over, I finally will be home.
From far off in the distance, hazy shapes pop into view,
And as those shapes drew nearer, my anticipation grew.
A hand was raised in welcome and I began to run
Toward familiar figures on this journey to the Son.
The closer that we came, it seemed the world was all aglow;
Promises fulfilled, and more, because He told us so.
For love, sweet love, it never dies, all true believers know,
For absence makes it fonder, as in our hearts it grows.
I thank you, Lord, for peaceful dreams
That wipe away my fears
And for blessed assurance
That brings only happy tears.
