Today As I Pray

Today as I pray
In the comfort of home,
Surrounded by family
By those I have known.

A young woman is hurting,
For she did the same.
She prayed to my Jesus,
She named Him by name.

"Oh, that's her mistake,"
Some people may say.
"Just don't say His name,
They will go away."

But the One with the nail scars
She would not deny.
So they came and they beat her
Then laughed as she cried.

But what they can't take away
As they enforce their law.
Is the peace that she's left with
And her keen sense of awe.

Today as I pray,
With the freedom that's mine.
And oft take for granted,
Religious freedom so fine.

Some brothers will die,
Some sisters will weep,
A Savior stands waiting,
And their souls He WILL keep.

Persecution is common,
For many Christians today.
How many will meet Jesus,
Today ... As I pray?
