Pair of blue birds pirched on a flowering spring tree.

Backyard Oasis

My backyard is an oasis for birds and squirrels and me.
The lovely sound of birdsong can be heard from every tree.
High above the garden, much to my delight,
Purple Martins dip and soar. What an awesome sight!

To a nesting box, a bluebird pair
airlifts morsels for fledglings to share.
In and out, they re busy all day,
feeding their family. They ve no time to play.

There are tiny hummers so eager to dine
from feeders filled with sweet nectar wine.
No matter the number of feeders out there,
there s always one hummer who refuses to share.

This ruby-throated bully seems to do what he does best.
He guards all the feeders and chases away the pests.
He flits and menaces; he s eager to fight
and he s on duty from morning til night.

And Pearl the Squirrel and her babies abound,
up in the treetops and down on the ground.
Life is a game; they have so much fun
chasing one another. Just look at them run!

I watch from my swing; I haven t a care,
and the blessings received are far more than my share.
God is in Heaven, my mind is at peace
and my backyard friends have enjoyed their feast.

The flowers are lovely; the breezes are cool.
Sitting and watching doesn t break any rule.
I m amazed and content as I watch from my swing.
No hurry! No worry! Oh, how I love spring!
